girls all go to the bathroom together because that’s where we rap battle
My name is Alice. Sometimes I trick myself into thinking that song lyrics describe my life perfectly.
Today for Nelson Mandela Day we went to a community center in a township right outside the city for 67 minutes of service, and I was working next to this woman who kept looking up at the sky which was gross and overcast but not raining and telling me that Madiba must be looking down on us, knowing that we’re doing good things, and making the rain wait.
This week has been rough. I’ve been kind of lonely here and there, I had one really terrible night and I got my wallet and ipod stolen and it’s just hard to adjust.
But this place is really cool. So much has happened, and so recently. A lot more needs to happen. But people care about their country, about their homes and their history. And about Nelson Mandela, whose birthday it is today and who the Earth was lucky to have while he was here. And it’s beautiful. So unbelievably beautiful.
It’s a terrible thing, I think, in life to wait until you’re ready. I have this feeling now that actually no one is ever ready to do anything. There is almost no such thing as ready. There is only now. And you may as well do it now. Generally speaking, now is as good a time as any.
